Hi all

I'm looking at a custom folder & have two in mind with the same compound grind however the metals are different.

One is CTS-B75P & the other is CPM-154...what's the difference?

Cool & thanks but I was never too good at chemistry!!

What it comes down to is how hard are they? Can they keep an edge? Are they easily sharpened?

Heat treat has a lot more to do with the steel than the elemental composition...

Good steel+bad heat treat=bad steel

Bad steel (whatever that is)+good heat treat=good steel

poorly heat treated M390 might perform worse than a "lower grade" steel like 440C that has been heat treated properly...

Don't worry , if it's a premium 'powder steel ' it will perform very well !!

HRC or rockwell hardness will give an idea on what to expect with regards to your other questions, however these steels will keep a keen edge quite well and are generally easy to shape and maintain and cater an edge to your uses.

Your ability to bring out the best in a steel for your uses is quite important and overlooked by many.

As mete said. Don't worry.
