I recently picked up some "crumbles" of meteoric Nickel/Iron (was told it was from the Glorietta Mountain Palasite fall in New Mexico). It is about 4% Nickel. Interesting stuff. I welded it all up with some 1084 and stacked and folded to about 100 layers. Put a slab of that on each side of a 1/8 inch bar of 1084 for a "San-mai" type blade.

blade length: 5 3/8 inches
Overall length: 9 1/2
Juniper burl handle grip and wrought iron hardware.

Hey Uncle Mike,

Staggering. Just absolutely staggering. The pattern weld is awesome. The juniper burl grain well defined. The combo...way cool!

If you don't mind my asking, how did you fix the hardware and handle? (Can you tell I'm a typical info sponging newbie?)

Thanks for sharing, Phil

Man made damascus hasn't ever really been a big favorite of mine. I know there are thousands of makers and collectors that would think I'm nuts. But, when you have a piece of damascus thats actually made from part of a meteor.... Holy Cow!!! And especially when it's done by someone who knows what they're doing and how to do it!!! Here is a perfect example in my opinion (and everyone has one) of a terrific blend of beauty and art. Incredible. One of the most beautiful knives I've ever seen,,,,, ever.

That's a real beauty. Has a very balanced look about it. The blade shape and san mai along with the burl, make for a striking combination.

I'm speachless. That doesn't happen often.

That's something you do not see everyday. I love the way the burl sets off the blade. Great work!

Thank you all for your comments. I think I'll be doing more with meteorite.

Phil - The handle block is drilled and carved out to receive the tang, the spacers and guard are drilled/carved to slip onto the tang. The guard is soldered in place. Spacers and handle block are glued together and then shaped as one piece. Then the whole thing is assembled with epoxy.
