Clips or sheaths ? My son favors the clip but has lost several good folding knives. I just lost and refound a decent folder ( clip) thanks to a flashlight in the truck. I believe I'll put this one in a sheath from now on.

What do you people favor ? Clip or sheath ?

We don´t see many clips in traditionals, I´ve seen a couple in pictures and didn´t like them.

I carry slipjoints in pocket, in sheath only if they are too large, and I already have multitool, harmonica and cell phone on my belt.

Years ago when I first discovered clips I got a Delica, which one day simply disapeared, now I only ocasionally carry a clipped knife, usually a small flat one in my shirt pocket, much like a pen.

Pants pocket good idea but this folder a bit too long. Don Luis has a good idea. Carried in the "shirt pocket like a pen". Works fine.

I've a nice Case slip joint with stag scales, wharncliff main blade, pocket carry it began to show rust, it's not a stainless model, one of 400 or so made, so I made a nice vertical sheath to carry her in, works pretty well, making it handy to get to;

It was hard to get time to make one for myself!

Gary makes some of the nicest and best sheaths around. I carry multiblades in my pocket (all by themselves), but if I was looking for a folder sheath, I would check with Gary. The best part will be getting to meet him.

IMO, it all depends on the folder. For a larger folder I prefer a clip over anything. That way the knife stays out of the way until I need it. For a small to midsize folder it's either a clip or pocket (or watch pocket) carry all the way.

That is one good looking sheath. The knife looks like its a part of the sheath. Well done!

Thanks Fetland, works very well, due to the curve of the blade, she snaps in secure. Here is a scan of that knife along with my pearl #38...

Sheath, anyday over clip. Clips eat pockets, dont hold your knife in place in "action", and they are allways in the way when really working with the knife. They eat your hand to blisters after few hours of use.

With good sheath one can carry the knife where ever, when ever and in every positions. Even in your pocket or suspenders or...
Knife without clip is bliss.

G2, that's a very nice sheath. I'm glad you got around to making one for yourself--you deserve the best! ;)

I've never liked using pocket clips for two reasons: they announce to everyone that you're carrying a knife and because I live in congested urban environment where I ride public transit and I think pocket clips invite pick pockets. I carry my Ken Onion blackout in my right front pocket, tip up with nothing else in the pocket. My hand slides right onto the knife and my thumb goes immediatly to the thumb stud. This works for me and I've never been able to get used to the pocket clip.

Interesting question in a traditional knife forum. The only 2 traditional ways would probably be pocket and sheath. I actually prefer a clip for convenience, but it's not a traditional knife. Lots of times my stockmans are too heavy and bulky, so the clip wins. It's very convenient when one hand is busy. I also agree, it's not as secure, though.

That is a beautiful sheath! If I send you my Queen, ...
