Metro DC area with these knives?

I've just moved to Metro DC, so I'll be traveling around the District, Maryland and Virginia. What are the laws concerning assisted opening ( kershaw Ken onion ) and gravity type locks ( SOG Xray vision ) ?

Does anyone know? I grew up around here and the cops are serious hardasses.

I can't speak for Maryland, but don't try to carry fixed blades in DC or, really, in Northern Virginia. The limit on blade length in DC is 3" for folders, and, of course, no autos, balis, or gravity knives. I know of no limit in Virginia, except that it is 3" in Richmond itself. Again, no autos, balis, or gravity blades are allowed. In all cases, an obvious piece of advice is not to be waving the knife around and not to be intimidating people with it.

Oh, and I would be very careful about carrying a knife into federal government buildings unless it has a blade of 2.5" or less. Please see 18USC930, that's 18 US Code 930, at http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=174444
