It is a Quinceañera. (pronounced kinsinyera) It is in honor of her 15th birthday. It is a very important event for the family. Sorry, got no knife suggestions.

i might be wrong, but mabye this is the one of the few events that you cant slip in a knife , no matter how clever you are.

mabey you could make a cake cuting/carving set or something liek that.

Actually it's more like: keen-say-ah-nee-eh-da ;)

As for the blade, I image googled "mexican knife." Seems like there are a few ideas you can work off of.

i dont think it would be that hard do you? didnt most men wear a dress blade to special occasians? my great grand father had "church" knives and such.

I think the intention is good Doc but this is 2006 not 1886 :) I do not think that many young folks appreciate knives like we do. You might be better off buying a few cases of Corona or Negro Modelo.

I believe that you will find much more variety in Spanish blades than in Mexican blades.

For some beautiful Spanish knives take a look at posts by Montejano in The Gallery, or in his Web site.

Here's a picture of my Mexican knife from The Aragon family in Oaxaca.

Don Luis,

Is the Aragon family still making knives? I read a James Ayres article on this knifemaking clan and my interest was piqued. I'd love to get a handmade knfie by them.

thanks alot this was more along the lines of what i wanted just not as beautiful or highley styalized as these but i think i have the basic flow now. and you are correct ive found many more pics on spanish weaponery than i did for purely mexican. thank you all for your input

I'm not Mexican. But that's just rude. And it is not funny.

I have an old one from Oxuaca,Mexico that was made for a boy of 15 or 16
It has an engraving of a bull horning a horse in the tail end and on the other side is a scene with a couple floating down a river on a raft and the woman cutting something up.It has an area for a name.Send me you email and i will send ya a pic.If it is not too late.
