Will be on a medical mission in southern Mexico this year. Anyone know if there are knife restrictions, I like to carry a Leatherman. Many thanks or muy amable, as the case may be.

i know it is something cities regulate, ie nuevo laredo tamaulipus makes it illegal to carry virtually any knife, fixed or folder, irregardless of blade length....

of course idont think they enforce it except against turistas, make a little $$ that way

i heard one guy got arrested(in NL) for a SAK, had to pay 'fine'(bribe??)to get out

just depends on the place/situation imho

mex laws are funny.............

I've never had any trouble in Monterrey or Reynosa, but I only carry small SAKs, Old Timers and my Leatherman. All of my travel to Mexico is work-related, so I usually have a tool-box full of tools and test equipment, too. This usually draws more attention from the customs guys than my SAK or leatherman. Also, I noticed that many of the guys at the plant in Reynosa I go to started carrying Leathermen (Or Gerber) multitools after my first trip down there. :)

But I am very careful where I use any knife, just in case. Only in the plant or in my hotel room.

There are several websites available that give Mexico travel guidelines. The Mexican Counsulate is a fairly good resource. I don't know the URL, but a search on most search engines will find it for you.
