IN my never ending quest for steel, I read about this knife awhile ago but for one reason or another didn't buy one a recent thread about pointy vs blunt knives for boating got me thinking about it again. my qustion is do any of you have one.what steel type, edge holding ability, use's other then boating ect. www.myerchin.com

I use and older Camillus rigger's knife. The Myerchin is great in that it is serrated, 440C steel, and it has a built in LED light.

They are good if you are working in an environment where there is a lot of rope.

I have a Myerchin offshore crewman. I carry it more for the Marlinespike then for the blade. The overall fit and finish is very good. I don't really use the blade for anything other then working with line (rope) and the occasional lemon or lime.

It has held up very well (Great Lakes, Fresh water).

All in all, it works good, Looks good, and the quality is more then acceptable.
It is also VERY Sheeple friendly. (Important when going out to dinner where there may not be boaters around)

I have a Buck marlin spike folder I bought years and years ago. I like it for the sheep's foot blade, but the spike is also very handy for doing the prying I don't want to do with the blade.

If it were a locking blade, I would like it even more.

The Myerchins look very nice, though for EDC I don't like a serrated blade so much.

I have the one with the light , and I just never really liked it. Interesting lock though.

I wonder if I could modify the light to make it a bit better too.

thank's guys I must have missed the steel type when I read the add (440c) what i 'am interested in is the fixed blade plain edge. I like the looks of this knife and wonder about its suitability for use on shore as well as off, Also THE QUALITY. Is it worth the asking price.
