I was on yourcornerstore.com looking to buy a few more folding knives when I came accross the Maxx-Q Tactical. The knife looks great, and as I look above the list of Meyerco Knives I saw a Maxx-Q I would guess and say regular. But the site did not have a pic, and as I looked around no sites that I have seen have pics of the Maxx-Q. They the Maxx-Q and Q Tactical are the same measurements and handles, but different blade steels.... Are they the same looking blade??? Is the Q Tactical all black, handle and bladed where is the regular Maxx-Q is not? Help would be much appreciated thank you very much.

I just looked up that knife....

it looks suspiciously like the Spyderco Captain.

I would go with the Captain for Spyderco quality.

The tactical one has a black blade, while the regular has satin finished blade. Hope this helps, and I believe that is the only difference.

That is a huge help thank you! So the regualr Maxx-Q is a Satin Blade made of AUS8 and the Maxx-Q Tactical is a black blade made of 8CR13MoV???

I saw a Maxx q listed in black, so I'm not sure what ya get. I also saw blades listed as 8Cr13, not 8Cr13MoV. I didn't even see the Maxx q's listed on Meyerco's website. Total lack of info on their site and crappy navigation.

My $0.02, buy a Boker Trance or Kershaw Needs Works for the same price.

The Meyerco Maxx Q is a production version of Darrel Ralph's mid -tech Maxx Q. The Meyerco version is assisted opening and is only starting to become available now. It will be imported from China and the early specs I have say the blade will be made of 8Cr13MoV. Also they will offer black and serrated / non-serrated blades.

If you like DDR knives, then you'll appreciate some the design features, like the Gunhammer flipper and the blade shape.

Here's a picture of my DDR version, also some of the on-line stores are actually using pictures of the DDR version and not the Meryerco. Once I get one I'll compare the quality of both.

The DDR is a great knife, if you can get past the unorthodox blade shape. Of course, a custom knife or a mid-tech by one of the best out there will be impressive. I bet the Meyerco is at least up to the best of the CRKT custom collaborations.

How's that for a wild guess? :D
Thinking about it since the last thread on these, I'm probably going to get one to play with.

Thank you for everyones replies, I really like the look of the knife, from Meyerco production knife from Darrel Ralphs design. I much rather get the Satin Finish blade vs the whole blade blade, if anyone has any place that I know where I can find it, please let me know.

I talked to Meyerco about this knife several weeks ago. At that time they were not available yet and they were trying to iron out several issues with the knife. They could not give me a time frame when they would be available. Their Lambert shockwave knife looks great, micarta bolsters, I just wish they were not AO.

Here were the specs I had for my Prototype Robo Assisted MaxxQ:

1. Blade Steel CPM-S30V.
2. Handle material G10 3-D machined
3. All hardware is Stainless Steel. Wear parts are heat treated.
4. Hidden Lanyard post.
5. .07 thick Titanium Lock.
6. appx 7.5in OAL

Actually, that design is older than the Spyderco Captain. If I didn't already know Spyderco was a company with integrity, I could say the same thing about the Captain.
