The Strider MFS has sort of become the unofficial range knife for our firearms instructors. It is an outstanding blade design for utility work. The sheath and attachment design has made it a great addition to the gunbelts we use while instructing and teaching classes. They ride directly behind our Safariland kydex duty holsters on nylon belts and the knife stays out of the way. It is also fairly low profile (while I love my big Striders-the brass and pogues get a little put off by them). I spent the last couple days teaching a tactical rifle class. We set up target stands that we developed that use very large iron stakes that are driven into the ground with sledge hammers and then wood is attached to these stands with a very good dose of 100 mph tape. The range we use for these classes gets some pretty extreme wind, so these are very heavy duty set-ups. They also suck to take apart. I used to use my WB to dismantly these stands. Running blades up and down against the iron and trying to cut through all this tape and wood is more than most blades can take. My WB has always worked fine as far as holding up to the iron stakes, but its thickness was a detriment as far as getting between the tape wood and iron without the wood suffering. I used my MFS over the last two days and it was perfect. It cut through all the tape like a scalpel, it fit in between the wood and iron without any problem, and we could actually reuse everything without a problem. The usual cardboard cutting was easy and the knife handled really well. For what I am using the MFS for, it is really a perfect tool. Another win for Strider.

I've been contemplated buying an MFS, so I was interested to see your post. Just out of curiousity, how long is your knife? The MFS specs on the Strider site mention a 3.25" blade with a 7.5" OAL. However, I seem to recall seeing an MFS for sale on the Triple Aught Design site that had a 4" blade and an 8.25" OAL. I would think that the 4" blade would be more useful, but in any case it looks like a great knife.
