Does anyone have information concerning a company called the Miami Machete Company and a model called the Bushmaster. A book about medical research expeditions in the Amazon regions recommends this "high end" machete but I have been unable to find any information on the model of the company. The book, Jungle Travel and Survival (2001) has useful information concerning equipment, so I am curious about the machete reference www.miamimachete is given as a website but seems to be a dead end.

Miami Machete Works, Inc. held a trademark on the Bushmaster logo that included a snake wrapped around a machete. The trademark has been reported as abandoned, which would suggest that they're no longer in business. Here's a link to a site that gives all of the trademark info including a name and address of the fellow that filed the trademark. Maybe you can contact him to find out what happened and if any machetes are still available.

I did a little more digging. It looks like the trademark was abandoned in 2000. Also, the guy that filed it has filed over 100 trademarks. I'm guessing that he either is in business filing trademarks for small companies or he grabs up abandoned trademarks hoping to profit off of them. If it's the former he might be able to direct you to the original owners of Miami Machete Works. If it's the latter it's probably a dead end. Good luck in your hunt.

Miami Machete got cross ways with Budweiser beer over the name of machete. Bud sued and they decided to just get out of the business. Not sure their machetes were selling all that well anyway as they were pretty high priced for that market.

I cannot really understand all the legal and trademark issues - I am a simple schoolteacher and a misfit beachcomber. I think I will just have to keep my machetes Brazilian (Tramontina) and my beer Samoan (Vailima). Thanks for the information. :D
