Does anyone know how to clean Micarta without messing it up? I know this almost sounds like a joke question but I am serious, here is why. For the last three years or so I have EDC'ed a Rukus almost everyday. It has, just like all micarta, picked up oil from my hands over the years. Now it is dark and you can see light areas under the clip, and where the indentation for the clip on the other side is. I have used Carb cleaner, acetone, and even used the parts washer at work, still can't get it clean. Suggestions?

i personally use dishsoapp and a toothbrush/cloth

Me too, and it always works...except for this knife. I think I went too long between cleanings or something, because hot water dish soap and a toothbrush has always worked before. Oh I even put it in the dishwasher too. If Acetone and Carb Cleaner doesnt work, I don't know what will. Maybe I will submerge the whole knife in Acetone for an hour or two.

If it is a knife you EDC, I'd say just leave it alone. Clearly the staining or patina has penetrated the micarta so the only way you'd likely get if off is sanding and then you'd possibly alter the ergonomics. After all you've done it is certainly "clean". I would have concern that soaking in acetone would soften or start dissolving the epoxy of the micarta. Enjoy the history that you've added to the knife.
