First of all, apologies - I DID try the search several times throughout the hour and all I get is a page cannot be displayed as a result for my efforts...

...anyhow. What do you guys use to clean your micarta handles if they get dirty? What substances are safe to use and won't discolour the handles?

Thanks in advance, I'd love to know!

I've just used plain ol' soap and water followed up by a light coat of mineral oil to pop out the pattern. Works for me! :D

A girl needs a knife...

Search when you can, I guess, but you know we LOVE to ramble on. ;)

Here's one for you. If it is nasty. I mean, so much oil it is just silly! Maybe you thought wd40 was a good idea but have now changed your mind?

Use the same chemical paint stripper you might use to remove the coating. The micarta comes out looking clean as a whistle and light. All ready for you to gummy it up again!

I don't know that I would repeat that process weekly but I've stripped a few blades. During the ensuing satin & polish, the micarta got REALLY gummed up. A few more minutes with stripper- bingo!

For what it's worth, I don't think there's much out there that will stain or discolor your micarta. Just don't use bleach. Regular dish soap is fine. When my EDC warden gets gross, I just toss it into one of the silverware bins in the dishwasher (by itself) with the rest of the dishes and let 'er rip. I doesn't hurt it one little bit.
