Man this is a funny request, but here goes:

Got a fella that has asked if I can put a handle on his kitchen sauce pan. Seems the original fell off. (My Dad taught me over and over, nothing just breaks by itself....) Anyhow, I'm looking to see if this Micarta we buy is high enough temperature rated for the oven. Don't know if this is the same, or another variation of the original micarta used for kitchen ware. Anyone have any data on this?

I'm thinking a custom pot handle just could be a new market for our high end talents... :D :D

Thanks,

Dan

I wouldn't do it. Micarta is a phenolic resin material, and gives off Phenol, and Formaldehyde gas when heated.

They're both toxic, the last thing you need in your house.

Sauce pans do not go into ovens, at least around here they don't.

I have sauce pans which have handles made from a bakelite/phenolic based thermoset resin so replacing these with micarta would not be such a stretch of the imagination.
