Going to go ahead and order a Sebenza in the next couple of days. I've got one question for you guys...

I'm worried about he grip of the plain handle being too slick. Is the plain handle prone to slip? For an EDC does the micarta offer a lot more traction? What does the micarta feel like? Ok, so maybe I had more than one question :D

I do not have experience with micarta sebenzas ( I know others will chime in ). I find the blasted over titanium to be slightly grippy and have never had mine slip. I would think the micarta would make the handle slightly larger and will offer more grip. As far as micarta as a handle material, it is very hard and durable, so it will wear nicely. I have found micarta to be a little grippy as well.

I have both large 21s in plain and Micarta and Nyefmaker nailed it!

The Micarta is slightly wider, and a tad more grippy.... the sandblasted one is also grippy, but just a tad less than the Micarta. I do know over time the plain will smooth out to almost a baby's butt smooth and lose some of it's grip. The plain will also show the most wear, and I like that beat up look so I really digg the plain sebbies.

Both are very nice, and I really like both! The plain does have a very "no fluff" feeling to it and all business, where as the Micarta looks dressed up. As a knife that is the "most CRK" in design? I think it's the very simple plain jain's with a blue stud and blue spacer. There is nothing more you need on it and nothing less to take away.... and that's what I see CRK is all about.
:D

I didn't like the grip on my small plain Classic... too thin and smooth. The micarta inlays made up for that and the small Classic/21 handle style is fine for me with the inlays.

I like the look and feel of the micarta over the plain. you cannot go wrong with it. it is a little more grippy and it adds a nice thickness over the plain.

Small plain for me. No issues with grip so far, but it is still fairly new.

The only reason I decided to get a plain sebbie 21 over the micarta is how the micarta is held into the titanium handle. double sided tape! I know Chris Reeves says it will never become detatched, however it was just something that bothered me about double sided tape being the only thing that was holding the micarta in place. Just my opinion. I love my sebbie and am not knocking the knife whatsoever. Just feel the plain solid slab of titanium is stronger.

When it was explained to me by Anne Reeve, the double sided tape does not really do all the holding of the inlay, it just helps. The inlay and the handle are machined to such a tight tolerance that they fit VERY tightly together.

From the CRK website:

Epoxy was my first choice for holding the inlaid section but there were disadvantages with that. The solution came from the 3M Corporation in the form of VHB™ (very high bond) double-sided tape. This is not your ordinary tape from the local hardware store. 3M VHB™ tape is used in a variety of industrial applications such as wings on aircraft, name plates, truck cabs and the mirrored ceiling panels used in the tunnels under the runways at Chicago O'Hare Airport. With the precision fit of the inlay, combined with the holding strength of the double-sided tape, the inlays will never come out of the handle.

Thanks for all the great info guys. I think I'm going to get the 21 Large plain w/ a double thumb stud.

VHB tape holds so well that "Heather" told me when they are doing a refurbish and it requires new in/lay's that they have to break them to get them out most of the time. Watch the video I've attached and you will become a believer,
Trust me. :thumbup: Rick :yawn::yawn::yawn:

I don't have a micarta but I do have a wood inlay and I'd say that the inlays make the knife a little easier to grip, especially when opening and unlocking the knife. Not a big deal, but noticeable. You'll be happy either way, however.

Both are sweet..seems the micarta is a little more 'grippy' when taking it out of your pocket. For a user I prefer the good ol' plane jane. 'Specially considering the price diff.

Wow, that's pretty cool. You almost don't even need to inlay the wood in the handle.

Everyone's pretty much said it all. Thicker handle slightly more grip. Either way you can't go wrong. Enjoy your knife!!
