So,

I like the classic jigged bone (orange and amber or smooth overall) and some stags, have a few case and gec's in bone wich i love

but, I also like and love micarta handles, mostly canvas, I have a 2007 #73 gec in Rucarta (canvas micarta) and a ruger canoe from casexx

are there other NON custom slijoints with micarta/similars or G-10 handles? I seem to have found only black/red G-10 for case and a couple micarta GEC's, all others are either bone, wood, stag or delrin (mostly) in theit variety but very little ones in micarta
I seem to find many custom slippies in canvas micarta (alsdorf, bose, davison etc) but they're far from my reach now

thanks!

Lone Wolf made a very nice rendition of the Loveless City Knife that had green canvas micarta handles. A great production slippie but getting increasingly hard to find these days.

I'm with ya, and think more factory slip joints should be offered with micarta.

I don't like G-10 to much though, its heavy and doesn't give a good grip when wet or bloody, like micarta does.

I have a large Case CV Copperlock that I want to have micarta scales put on.

I want a #73 with a green canvas handle, rounded and not flat
may shot an email to the guys at GEC

Case offers a wide variety in Orange G10.
If I'm not mistaken, they have some black or dark gray G10 this year as well (I can't seem to find the Fall 2010 .pdf here at work).

A very nice rendition indeed. I have two of them (both micarta).

Good thread and good idea:thumbup:

Manufacturers could offer more micarta, paper, linen etc. Two I like are Antique Ivory and Red Linen, Natural is very good too. GEC did a few but they seemed to have lost interest in it,more's the pity:grumpy:

tell me this is not gorgeus

can't imagine it with waxed smooth round handles...and maybe green canvas...

Now you guys just made me go out and get a Case orange G-10 medium stockman. I'd been wanting one and the medium stockman is getting a little hard to find in orange.

I'm a huge proponent of micarta in traditional knives. It's been around for 100 years (although not as a handle material), it looks great (I love the paper micartas), and it can be a somewhat suitable replacement for illegal/unethical materials such as ivory. I will fight for a micarta handled forum knife every year, because someone has to. Not a big fan of jigged micarta, though.

AG Russell makes all kinds of knives with micarta. For some reason, he tends to call it "rucarta" though. I've always wondered why.

I have a GEC #73 very similar to the one Wintermute shows above, and the same thing in black paper micarta. They're lovely knives.

I like Case's black G10 series quite a lot. They're some of my favorite current-production Cases. Very tough and good-looking stuff, that G10. I'd love to see some more traditional knives with micarta scales. If Case were to make a series in green linen micara, I wouldn't complain. ;)

I'm guessing it's because it features the first two letters of his last name and is just a means of advertising. (Kinda like J-Lo and all the other annoying monikers that piled on afterward.)

That makes sense. That had never occurred to me. :o I've always wanted to ask him, but I've just never figured out how to broach the subject respectfully. AG Russell can call micarta anything he wants. He could call it "pigs' ear", and that would become a new term for the material. :D

I wondered that myself. I had read that micarta was a registered trademark of Norplex-Micarta so I wonder if Rucarta is different in some way that it was named differently as well. Or it could be as Elliott stated, a marketing name.

It's registered so I wouldn't be surprised if there is some slight difference unless it's only the name that's protected. Not of sufficient interest to put in the research time (personally) since I don't own any.

I have a friend who makes "custom composite laminates"....same thing, but he refuses to call it Micarta.....

So I guess if you make it, or have it made for you, you can call it anything you want.

As I am not a fan of bone, I would also love to see more offered in G10 or micarta.
