Question for you guys who own them already. Do they do a better job at absorbing some of the the vibration associated with heavy chopping/batoning then the stock Grivory ones do?
I've been thinking about getting a pair for my BK9 to make fire prep a little more enjoyable in the mornings this year.

Mine do. They seem to give better grip too. I use a lanyard when I'm gettin' down to business, but for limbing and batonning, it makes a big difference. I had them on my BK2, and though I never experienced it, my betters have said that they can make hotspots when your crafting and carving for extended periods of time. I like the grivory on my BK2 better than the micarta, but I love them on my BK9. I was making some traps with it yesterday, and other than some wrist fatigue from the weight, its was awesome.

Last weekend, I took my 9 out for a walk to stretch its legs, and I actually noticed a big difference when I was cutting down some Sycamore saps. Less vibe and better grip, makes a good chopper great. I say go for it, if you don't like them, holler at me, I'll take'em off your hands.

I have them on my BK2, and my impression is that they do soften the blows when chopping.

i haven't used the new model from KaBar much at all, they always seem to be out of stock for some reason :) and i'm loathe to modify what i like already (the grivory)

having some some truly heavy chopping with my Tac Tool, and being used to working with my hands, i guess i have developed habits which cause me to not notice or something. mmm.

next time i order something, maybe i'll get a set and play around with them

I admit when I first got micarta it was purely for aesthetics. But after using them, I think they're certainly grippier than the grivory. I don't know if I noticed a significant reduction in vibration, but YMMV...

I put them on both my BK7 and BK2 and don't think I'd go back to grivory...but that's just me.

i just ordered a set from tomarskabars.com (it's in stock since i got notification earlier today that it shipped out already!) so i'll do a before and after test on monday night and report back.

Are you guys talking about the ones I saw at Rocky National, or ones you're making yourselves?
I have ordered a BK2 with custom micarta handles from Chestnut Ridge. They look different in their contours and colors, just from the pics. I can easily adjust the shape of those if needed.

I prefer the Micarta on my 9 and 2.When I order the Magnum Camp,I'll be getting Micarta grips.

I do a lot of fire prep in the winter and have noticed I sometimes get a soar arm after some serious hard hacking and batoning. So I figured that the micarta grips would help out with some of the vibrations and make things a little more enjoyable/easier on the old arm of mine.

Great, thanks for the input guys  I've been on the fence about buying them for a while now, but didn't know if they made any real difference or not.

I'll buy a pair and see how they work out. If anything they'll make an awesome knife even awesomer! lol

Thanks again guys!

Just popped some on the Brute, sorry no chopping yet. They do look/feel pretty darn good though. I'm ordering more.

I'm a big fan of the micarta. I reshaped them a little bit to fit my hand better (I have thick palms), so they fit nice, have great grip, and they feel more solid in hand. Also, I think they do absorb a little vibration in chopping.
