Hmmm, figured this would be the best place to ask this.

I just picked up a BM in this post:

http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/018622.html

I've went back to druel over the pic and realized that the micarta handles are secured differently on the SH and the BM presented. Before today I though all Busse knives secured the handle slabs as the BM shows, with what are they rivots?

Can someone educate me? Which method came first the scews or the rivots? Why was the change made to the later of the two, and are there certain advantages/disadavantage to either one?

Thanks

The brass tube fasteners on your new BM

, are the most recent, and the way the new E-handled Busse's are done. I believe, that, in the beginning, the slabs were attached via the "screw" type bolts, that had the heads ground smooth and flush with the handle slabs.
Then came the one's that left the screw head visible, as in the SHII that was pictured above yours.
You will find straight handled Busse's with the hollow brass fasteners (such as yours). However, no E-handled Busse's will have the solid bolt fasteners (that I know of).

I can only speculate on the reason for change, and the advantages/disadvantages, of the different ways.
The new style (brass hollow), simply can not rust, and also allows for a lashing location when making a monster spear(at least when using a BM), or for any other reason one would need an anchoring point.

Of course, then you have the multitude of differnt micarta types/styles that corresponded (somewhat) with the fasteners that were in use at any one particular time. Oh, and then there's the coating that has changed over time (went from smooth to the new krinkle).

This became progressively more confusing as it was typed....I'm not exactly sure what was typed, but not needed, or what was needed, and not typed?
