I just received micarta handles for my crewman and I noticed that one of the handles is noticeably darker than the other. Is it possible to treat the handles so their appearances match? Anyone had a similiar issue?

I just received some today. I haven't noticed a difference in color but I wish thet were darker. I believe Micarta will absorb liquids so maybe a wood stain might work. ???

I dont think Micarta absords liquids.(i might be wrong)
I should get mine in today, and i hope they match, or they will go back.
If it is a big diff in the color, i would call Camilius and see what they can do for u.

UPS just droped off the handles, and they look realy good on it. (they are more gray than black, but still look very good.)
Im thinking about stripping the black coat off now.
What is a good product to use to strip it with?

Just got a set for my BK-7 and this is what I got.

Has anyone else received a pair in this condition? If so, is there anyway that I can even them up, without requiring special protective equipment?

I havn't contacted them yet, because I don't mind trying to fix this myself if I can, but my feelings are that this is completely unacceptable. Or, am I making a mountain out of a molehill?

Longbow, mine were actually a bit more discolored than that. I applied a few coats of Sno-Seal which is natural beeswax to both handles and all is well. The beeswax darkened the handles and evened out the color, so I am satisfied.

that is unacceptable I would send them back and request a pair that actually matched. if that isn't possible then just get your money back and pay look around for something else. it's ridiculous to pay good money for something and then have to fix it when you get it. just my .02. ahgar

Longbow - those handles are REALLY ugly. Maybe they are supposed to be some new type of black camo. :)

I expect to receive mine early next week. I will let you know if they look as bad as yours.

i like my micarta grips. that said, they are not even in color (i bought 3)... but they are only $20! the important thing is that they feel great!

zactly-mine arent even colored either-
install them and get the feel-i bet you will like them

I don't see what's wrong with those grips ... is it the color?

I like the looks of them.

Are the Micarta handles thinner than stock black ones? That would be one of the reasons why I would like to order a pair, that and the grip.

yup, the micarta grips are thinner than the stock black stocks. they feel really good.

here are my BK2 and BK5:

The total thickness difference in the handle (with both new scales installed) is roughly a 1/4-inch less.

This is what mine look like:

some micarta will darken with exposer to light and others darken with heat. the jean micarta i made will darken and change color if heated to much. thats my .02 cents

Where did you buy the Micarta Handles?
Direct from Camillus. Call Camillus Customer Service/Sales in the US at 315-672-8111 and ask for Wendy or Maureen.

Micarta is a fairly forgiving material. Simply take a 1/4 sheet palm sander to the scales using 120 grit paper then wet sand with 220 W/D...Let dry and see what you have....Work slowly as the pattern will change depending on where and what you sand off.
