Micarta handles question

Is Spyderco moving away from Micarta as handle material. If so, why? I like Micarta, it has a good feel.

I read somewhere Micarta is more expensive because it requires more hand labor. It also said Zytel is cheaper mostly because of less hand labor and it still makes a good, quality handle. If this is true, then Spyderco can make their knives a little less expensive and still maintain a high, functional quality.

IIRC, Sal said before that they would use Micarta for custom collaborations and for models like the Calypso Jr. and Dyad which are used to test the market before tooling up for Zytel. BTW, I agree, micarta does feel nice, my Viele is still one of my favourite knives.

Sal, please don't hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong, I was once before

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow....in Australia it's tomorrow already.

I believe that Sal said somewhere here before that Micarta does not sell well with the average ELU. Knife people love it, the average customer doesn't seem to have any idea what it is. It is the classiest of the synthetics in my opinion. I really like micarta more than carbon fiber. Maybe some day Sal will be able to start a online custom shop like Buck is doing now. I don't think they are in a position to do so right now since most of production is overseas. I can always dream though.
