I was cleaning and oiling my Ontario/Rat-7 D2 with Micarta Handles and got some Mineral Oil on the handle.:grumpy: Does the oil wear off or with the darker color be permantent?

I've had luck using rubbing alchol to clean oil off a bead blasted micarta handle.

You can wash it off with dishwashing detergent.

In my experience this works great with Canvas micarta the first few times, but after that the original color starts to fade with each washing. In my case I was removing oil from my hands. I prefer Linen micarta because even though it will fade too with time, it is much more colorfast in my experience.:)

I got 3-in-1 on micarta scales on one of my SAK's. I couldn't get it off/out of the scale material, so I finally rubbed the whole thing down with 3-in-1. It faded consistently across the whole knife, and pretty soon looked like it did when I started.

thx - cpr

dish soap and water will work fine.

But I use a gun degreaser sprayed on a Q-tip. Take's any oil right out.
If you get some on the steel make sure to reapply oil to that spot.

That's never happened to me; but only rarely do I find myself washing off a Micarta handle.
I imagine, though, that with any dyed material - even something as durable as Micarta - repeated washing with detergent will begin to cause color fading.

But, IME, one washing with Dawn, Palmolive, or similar to take off mineral oil stains won't fade the handle color at all.
