Micarta Handles

Are you talking about the BK11 scales or all the other ones? I didnt know anyone had the BK11 scales for sale yet until looking on Tomars site. There's not a snowballs chance in hell I'm paying $30 for BK11 scales.

The production Izula scales are only $16...Why are the BK11 scales so pricey?

well, $27.42... perhaps the price will drop later.

one might ask what the exact differences in materials and cost between the two types are... that might be enlightening... could be pricey materials are pricey... could be that's what the market will bear... dunno.

i've also updated the FAQ (section here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7777616&postcount=6) to reflect knowledge that the BK-11 micarta handles are available, and so pointed to this thread in particular.

I dont know how much Tomar's shipping is, but I figured it would put the scales over $30. The place I'm looking at the Izula scales has free shipping so the cost is only $15.95 to your door.

I would think the BK11 scales use about half as much material as the larger factor micarta scales. I just dont see the price connection here.

Hopefully, I'm not asking a question previously answered, but will those scales fit an old Camillus made BK-11?
Would it be possible for someone to provide a link to the site selling them?

No doubt! If I bought them from Tomar's with shipping to me in Canada the scales would cost me just over 60$.Thats insane!

27 bucks for the scales? You can purchase the complete knife for 5 bucks more.

I feel that we are being taken advantage of.

afaik, they should fit any BK-11 made by KaBar or Camillus, period.

sorry, can't provide a link (forum rules)... just google it, pops right up.

both of these points are FAQ items as well :>

I paid over $70 (www.vzgrips.com) for my micarta 1911 grips and there may be less material to those than the grips your talking about so the prices you guys think are high seem quite reasonable to me ;)

the riddle of steel - perhaps we should ask how they can sell the knives of such high quality for so little?

If you look at other comparable blades that come with Micarta grips - now take what those blades go for, subtract the cost of your bk7 or bk9 and you get . . . the cost of the micarta grips give or take. It is what it is, I think I might wait for more vendors to carry them and maybe shave a buck or two off the price.

Btw I am having custom black canvas micarta handles made for my BK2 and they are probably going to run me $50 or so.

pitt rules

go to google. start typing it in (tomars) then google will fill in the site name...voila...

I just ordered some from Tomars - it's $36.27 shipped

BK-11 Fans,

I just bought and installed the scales for my BK-11, but was having a tough time getting the proper Allen wrench sizing. Just in case anyone else wants to know without searching all over creation, I found that a 7/64" Allen is the magic.

I was told by the place in New York where I bought them that it was a 5/32 which is way too big.

Since the scales do not ship with the required Allen wrench to do the installation, make sure you have one handy or you'll be sitting there imagining what your Becker Necker would look like with them installed.

Has anyone found this to be any different with the scales for your BK-11?

I'm in Canada (Eastern seaboard) i'd buy a pair at Tomars price but they want to charge me 36$ just for shipping!
That's crazy, i've had a sword plus a couple of knives that came in one box and the shipping cost was less than that.
What are those tiny little grips packed in a lead box?
Even New Graham is giving me a $30 shipping price?
Weird i buy knives on a monthly basis from US sellers and usually pay $10-$20 shipping, thats for fixed blades not just grips.

If any body knows other online retailer that sells these the info would be greatly appreciated!
:)

New Graham has a great reputation here so i emailed them about the shipping cost. They replied in less than 24 hours and on a weekend no less!
A class act!
This is what they said-
"That is a standard rate as quoted. The rate can be lower or higher.
We set the charges based on weight and method of shipment(priority mail, overnight, etc.). We can ship INTERNATIONAL FIRST CLASS, with no insurance with rates starting at $5.00."
That seems like a fair and reasonable policy to me.
So for those of us outside the U.S there is an option to ship the cheaper INTERNATIONAL FIRST CLASS if one wishes.
So on the surface Tomar's per item price is cheaper but factoring in shipping costs New Grahams works out cheaper overall.

Right now i'm leaning towards buying from New Graham but to be fair i will email Tomars and see what they say about international shipping options.
I will update here on any reply i get.
:)

Tomars answer in its entirety "We only ship by USPS Priority International."
They just lost my business.
