I have just purchased a BK 10 , and want different scales . Which are preferred Micarta or G10 ? Who makes the best fit ? I've read about some Micarta's that didn't fit properly . I love the BK 10 , & on my way to being a Becker Head. My next is the BK 9 & BK 17 . thanks

My Limited experince.. I see more Micarta than G10, when members are posting pics. Not to say that G10 isn't the way to go. G10 looks great, no doubt, in the field or outdoor environment, I think your better served with Micarta, as it appears to weather and age more productively and possibly form to your grip over time. My humble observation. I'm actually going to pick up Micarta's for my newly acquired 9&10.. probably from Tomar's..:)

I've got my first set of Ka-Bar micarta on my new 10 and it fits just fine. Easy enough to sand to fit if it doesn't anyway. Remember, these blades and handles are mass-produced separately, not hand-fit for each set/blade. The only Ka-Bar-made handle upgrades are micarta. Everything else is 3rd party.

Generally, I think G10 is an awesome handle material. Grip increases when wet. It tends to be a bit denser, so it will have more weight than micarta (which is already heavier than grivory).

I like the Ka-Bar micarta quite a bit.

As much as I like Micarta, I love G10.

I'm a big fan of G10. Don't get me wrong, the Kabar Micarta is good stuff, but G10 is my go-to handle material. TCK makes some good stuff. I've only tried their ESEE grips, but I"m sure the quality is just as high for the Becker grips.

I prefer G-10 for field knives over linen micarta as G-10 does not readily absorb blood, oils and dirt like micarta does. Even just handling micarta scales exposes them to the oils and grime on your hands, without even taking them in to the field. My .02.

G10 is the way to go for a field/hunting knife. I've not seen another material behave the way it does when it gets wet, it gets grippy as hell! It's denser than micarta, heavier, and IMO stronger due to the fiberglass.

Thanks guys . I wish Hogue would make rubber finger groove scales for the BK's. I guess I'll go with G10's. I want to give my BK 10 a new finish to match the new scales.

I prefer G10 due to the ease of cleaning. Micarta seems to be more porous. My preference is because I hunt and am obsessed with scent elimination. I fastidiously clean both knife and sheath, along with my garments, prior to entering the woods. And I find cleaning the G10 is easier. It's easy to overlook this, but the deer and other game can surely pick up on a smelly knife, especially one that has been used in meat processing. To them, carnivores smell like meat.
