I got my first blade back from Paul Bos,I am thiking about using micata pins on the handle, does anyone know were I can get them?
Thanks:)

I've heard of using micarta pins before and just blew it off as something I'd never use on a knife. But it keeps coming up and this time I just had to ask the question out in the open. Why use micarta pins? And how are you using them? I'm a thinker and when I think about using micarta for handle materials I have lots of confidence in them. I use lots of different pin material. The sky's the limit so to speak. But I even hesitate to use softer metals like aluminum and copper. They look nice but don't have the shear strength of brass, nickel silver or stainless or even mild steel. So why micarta?

As a handle slab or scale, micarta is incredibly strong. One of the strongest in my opinion. But I would think that wooden pins would be stronger than micarta. The shear strength on hardwoods must be quite good for a pin that follows the grain. But micarta? My mind just won't accept using it in that way because it would seem to have little or no shear strength in small diameters. Am I wrong on this? Am I missing out on some fun here? How would you pein a micarta pin anyway? :)

I'm assuming that you would just superglue or epoxy the micarta pin in place. Where is the strength integrity in that method? If the knife is dropped, where is the holding power if the epoxy layer is cracked or compromised? Questions questions. I'm speaking from ignorance here so cut me a little slack. I would seriously like to know what would motivate you and cause you to use micarta for pin material when there are much better materials out there. I'm not trying to stir up $hit either. I'm quite serious with my question.

The original post asked where they were available, I ordered a set out of curosity, thought i might use them on stag handles so they would not be too noticeable, but thought they were too flimly to use.Maybe someone will post a use for them..

Yeah, I got a little off topic with my post I rekon. But I like to ride the horse while it's saddled. :D

No harm done on asking questions,I myself am learning as I go
as for your answer.I do not know the strength.I like the look
I went to a makers shop and watched him use them,I think in the short length they would be strong,if it was used for long length I would not think about using it,but for the use as pins in the handle I think they will hold up fine,I also would like to hear more about the strength.;)
