I am looking at an ESEE knife with micarta scales. I plan on using the knife as a hunting/hiking knife. My question is does micarta soak up fluids.. if so do I need to look at other options since the blade will be used for skinning and field dressing.
Micarta is a fairly dense, yet fibrous material that soaks up fluids quickly but does not lose strength or structure and easily washes clean, from my experience.
FWIW, I have an ESEE-4S-CP and 6S with linen micarta and a 3MIL-S-CP and Izula II both with canvas micarta.
