Micarta question...

Hi all,

So after pondering buying an Umnumzaan for about 2 years, I finally pulled the trigger a couple weeks ago on a StarTac and LOVE it!!! It's the nicest folder I've ever handled!

Needless to say, it has gotten me intrigued about buying another CRK knife. I've always liked the look of the micarta large Sebenza, but am torn if I should get the micarta or a standard (no inlay) version. Could you knowledgeable folks out there help me out? How is the grippiness of the micarta version compared to the standard (bead blasted I think?) version? Does the micarta protrude significantly from the scale, or is it more like 1 mm or something small like that?

Thanks for the input!

Gotta to tell ya'. The micarta is an awesome knife. I could not not have a micarta.

They both feel really good in my hands. I love the Micarta and the plain one as well and I switch every now and then and carry the other.

just my opinion but I prefer the look of the plains over any of the inlays, in terms of gripiness however I would have to say the micarta would have the slight advantage.

I have a plain and a micarta classic. I like the look and the feel of the micarta better. I don't know exactly how much the micarta slabs stick out but I'm gonna guess it at around 2mm. They make the knife feel more "rounded" in the hand and make it feel warmer to the hand due to less metal to skin contact I would guess.

I've owned both, and honestly just before reading this thread I was on the hunt in the exchange forum for a Micarta Inlay Large Sebenza :D

I wish I had kept the Micarta version, well actually both knives, but more so the Micarta handled Sebenza. Like vwb563 said, it makes the knife feel more rounded in the palm and there's less of that hot/cold feeling with less contact with the titanium.

So on that note.....anybody trying to get rid of a Large Micarta Sebenza, preferably used :p

Thanks So-Lo! Those are some great reviews...and your wife trying to cut the bottles was pretty funny too :D

You mentioned something in the video about single lug versus double...I was looking into double. What's the argument in favor of single?
