So I just got some micarta scales for my Esee Candiru and am looking to give them some grippy ridges and divots. I've looked around on the interweb at photos of other micarta scales (both big and small) but they all seem to be fairly the same. I'll be using a dremel with a 60 grit sanding band and possible a file.

I'd like to see some of your custom micarta sanding jobs and if you have any tips, please share.

I would skip the dremel and use a round and half round file and sand paper and 60 is about as low as I would go, but that is just personal preference regarding the grit.
The files will remove material fast enough, and it will be Much easier to control. Also, grab some wooden dowels so you arent relegated to the diameters of your files or making marks uneven.

For making straight lines, get a contour straight edge, it us usually used for car bodies and such, and two c-clamps and mark the line with the contour guide and use the c-clamps as a file guide.

If I can think of more, I will edit them in.
