I just picked up a nice little FB by Ivan Campos, but I'm not crazy about the cord-wrap handle. I was wondering if anyone knows who would be able to make me a nice thin set of black micarta scales for this. And could also skeletonize the tang a little to reduce the weight (it's a heavy little sucker). Any help would be appreciated.

I just made some "damascus" micarta it's olive drab and black...looks very similar to A.E.S.'s tutorial in fact I followed his instruction on how to make it! It came out very nice! I dont have a hydraulic press like he uses so I just squeezed the crap out of it in my vice between two 2x4's and let it set under pressure for about 24-36 hours... it came out great! you can pick up the Fiberglass resin at any super-walmart in the auto section... heres a link to thetutorial I used to make them. You should try it! http://www.aescustomknives.com.ar/docs/tutorial6.htm

See, the problem is, I don't have a vise, or a toolbench, or a grinder, or a drill press, or any of that cool stuff. I am what you might call "tool-challenged". I don't have the space or the $ right now to do my own mods, so I gotta outsource it to the fine makers on this forum. Thanks for the info, though. I'll definitely bookmark it, and try my hand at it in the future.

Raindog101,

Scott Tanguay has added micarta scales to blade blanks for me before. He does a great job and is great to deal with. You can PM him here or shoot him an email: magua1@midmaine.com

You can buy micarta blanks for next to nothing and make them yourself. Don't really need much in the way of tools. You can have something to brag about.
