Does anybody besides me love the smell of freshly worked micarta?

I just got an Al Mar Ultralight Falcon. It cost me about $75. A really nice piece and, as advertised, ultra light.

I also picked up a Kershaw Vapor at WallyWorld on the weekend. $20! I just couldn't pass it by. Another nice knife.

The Al Mar weighs 1.5 ounces. The Kershaw is 3.2 ounces.

I think they're both good value. But I like the Al Mar so much, I'm going to get the smaller Hawk model as well.

Does anybody know if the Hawk fits into an Altoids tin? How long is a tin anyway? Don't have one handy...

Bear,

I'll be GLAD do send you a few pounds of Micarta scraps. :D It smells a HECK of a lot better than most of the materials I work with!!

An Altoid tin sheath???? Hmmmmmmmmmmm........Interesting..........

Dr Lathe: Thanks for the offer, but I'll content myself with sniffing my knives. Gawd that sounds perverse.

The Altoids tin deal is because I'm wondering if either of the knives will fit in a survival kit housed in such a tin.

Dr Lathe / Neil,

Just riding on this thread 'cos I have a few questions on micarta:

(1) would micarta be better for tactical purposes (read: sweat / damp / humid / bloody conditions, sometimes) than G10?
(2) would bead blasting the micarta aid in grippiness?
(3) does beadblasted black linen micarta look less black than non-beadblasted?
(4) what is the scale material on the picture of the neck ninja on your website with black handles? is it G10 or is it black linen micarta? is it bead blasted?

thanks! hope you can reply....
