micarta vs grivory vs CF

i am about to buy my first beckers and i was wondering i f i should keep the grivory handles on it, put custom micarta handles on them( dont wanna spend 40 dollars for one set) or put carbon fiber on them. i heard CF was brittle so idk any suggestions

Handles/scales are kind of a personal preference thing and what you can afford. For many the grivory handles are fine. However, micarta handles can change the entire "feel" of the knife. Don't have any experience with CF handles on Beckers.

Wouldnt go for CF, grivory is what alot of folks swear by, even over micarta and other after-market handles. I prefer the linen Micarta on mine, but its just a personal thing. There's quite a few members here that make their own aftermarket grips from exotic woods, G10, home-made micarta etc.

the way i see it, buy your Beckers. use them

if you want a set of micarta? try it. slap it on a knife, move it around (for the full sized). eventually you'll like it, or not. if not? sell it. that easy.

With me, it is a bipolar relationship. Sometimes I feel like grivory is too slick, but then I realize that it is just what I want in my handles.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE micarta. I just have found that I am content with grivory on my Beckers; it has grown on me
If it says anything, I can't wait for the new scales for the BK14 to come out.

You can even modify your scales in ways like stippling if you want more grip; just check out the numerous threads and pics we have around here, it is amazing what people come up with! (If you cannot tell, I am kinda biased towards grivory :D:D)

Bladite has it spot on. Start with the grivory and see how you like it. If you are still curious, get the micarta. If you like it, you have new (and subjectively better) scales. If you don't, sell or trade 'em.

Hope that helps

May as well try the grivory first and then if you don't like it, you can always replace with micarta later. I'd really hate it if someone stole my grivory and left micarta in its place but your mileage may vary.

Grivory is now Zytel.

I have zytel, micarta, and exotic wood scales. For the BK9 I just ordered tonight, I will keep the stock zytel and add spacers and an inner tube grip.

The stock ones are fine at first, Krylon fusion sticks pretty good if it's a color issue. Let it cure for a week before using.

Carbon fiber would be rad for a tweener. I must look into this.

I'm micarta all the way. Use grivory on my bk2 and have been dreaming some wood scales. Nothing bad to say about grivory though.

I have grivory on some of my beckers, and 3 have micarta now,,,, though eventually I would love micarta on all,,,, I am content with the grivory and no complaints!!
