Micarta with blue lug?

So I stopped by the local shop briefly to kill some time and browsed the CRK's like I normally do. Since I'm contemplating picking up a small micarta 21, I decided I'd get a feel for one. They didn't have one, but had a large micarta 21 so decided to hold it for s&g.

Upon a little bit of fondling noticed something I haven't noticed on a micarta Sebenza before--blue lug and blue spacer. All I've ever seen in pics are silver hardware on these. What was funny was that there was no lanyard pin in the knife so obviously it had been taken apart and a small scuff or shiny spot on the butt end of the knife. I mentioned the blue lug (which had a decent bit of wear on it) so he pulled out the birth card which was born in 2011 and it had no special writing about a blue lug.

The only micarta blue I was able to find on google image search was a TNK special tanto with double blue lugs. So did CRK used to put these out, or are they selling someone's used Sebenza that may have had a spa trip? They don't sell used knives that I'm aware of...if so, maybe a collector piece bought off of someone.

I have never seen a micarta sebenza with a blue lug and spacer. They have always been silver. CRK does do one offs sometimes as I have seen different ones available over the years on dealers sites. They will add blue studs and spacers to an existing one as well for a fee......There are CRK dealers out there that do indeed sell used CRK from time to time. They are usually more collectible models like the OPK and such, but rare and unique sebenzas I have seen as well. You would have to check with the dealer to verify for yourself to make sure.

All I can say is that it was on the row with all the other CRK. Most everything they have in stock (obviously with the exception of the 25s) has birthdates of 2012 (yay old stonewash!). That's the only one I've seen older than that. Their prices are a good bit more than online dealers before any haggling, but the main knife guy there is nice and didn't want to offend him by asking if it was used....

Usually when CRK does something out of the norm like a blue lug and spacer, they put it on the BD Card. If your thinking of purchasing a knife costing over $400+, I would not hesitate to ask them if it was new, especially since you noticed no lanyard, scuffs, and worn blue thumb stud. If it offends them, then that is not the place to buy from quite honestly.

I've sent a Sebenza with a blue lug and spacer in to get a silver lug and spacer, so I imagine a few have sent theirs with silver in to get blue.
If it had've been ordered that way from the factory I would think it would've been written on the card.

Looking on the TNK site, I've seen blue lugs with micarta on the Insingo as well as the tanto

Oh no, I wasn't interested in buying it at all, and if I was I'd get one elsewhere for cheaper that's brand new. He and I shoot the shit on occasion, and I didn't see any reason to confront him about it. :)

I am picturing it in my head (can't find any images) and don't like the way that looks. I much prefer the look of the silver anyways and with the micarta I think that knife would look odd with blue on it.

Yeah, I didn't like it at all. I think the silver hardware helps make that knife so good.

I have a small classic micarta that came with a blue lug and spacer.

Happy Memorial Day all.

Silver thumb lugs and spacers are the standard for all Micarta knives from Chris Reeve Knives.

From time to time, we do special order them with blue lugs to have a variety.
