this is probably the wrong place for this, but what the hell...

i have been wondering, in my vigilant pursuit for blade attainment, if anyone has an idea of a manufacturer, company, person, etc, who does micarta handles? there are a lot of good blades out there that are either bare or could use an overhaul, was wondering if anyone had the hook up.

you can order micarta scales and make them yourself. Hey maybe a good business to start!;)

You know of a good source.

I tried the same thing with G-10. Complete loss. Did not turn out the way I wanted at all! :(

I know of a manufacturer who makes beautiful, and in my opinion the best micarta handles in all shapes, colors, and sizes, and, as an added bonus, they come already attached to the knives. :D

On the other hand, those handles are only available for certain patterns. For example, you can no longer get the rope or ergo-quilted slabs from the shop.

Hiya Hank!! You could ask this question over on the Shop Talk forum here on Bladeforums. One of the professional makers who inhabit that forum might be interested in doing the work for you. Also, by checking out the pictures that show up over there (as well as in The Gallery forum) you can see whose style of handle making appeals to your taste.

Another approach is to see if there is a blademaker in your locale who would do the work for you. To locate them, check out gun/knife shows, look for ads in the back of knife magazines, or start asking sportsmen who you know. If you find a local maker to do the rehandle chores for you, this makes it easy to stop by for "in progress" checks if there's any questions about the shape or material as the handle develops.

Alternatively, as the others noted, you can make your own handles to get a very customized fit for your hand. This can be done with very simple hand tools (files & sandpaper) or lots of toys (beadblast cabinet, grinders & buffers).

To buy handle scale material, I recommend picking it up at a knife show so you can see exactly what you are getting. If you decide to buy it online, be sure the vendor has an inspection period during which you can return an order if you don't like the look of the material, since this is a very subjective consideration.

Those are my two favorites. :grumpy:

For Busses, I've seen Reese Weiland do some really nice work. Check out his website for pics, but he won't be the cheapest.

The coolest mircarta work I have seen has been from Reese Weiland, like Walkiing man said. Jens Anso also does some way cool texturing.

I hear ya, buddy. I asked Garth about getting my ZTs and a BA3 redone with black paper. No dice.
