I have seen Micarta with a kind of wood grain, like, pattern, and I have seen Micarta with no wood grain, like, pattern. What I need to know - is there a term for Micarta that has no wood grain, like, pattern at all?
The BladeForums.com 2024 Traditional Knife is available! Price is $250 ea (shipped within CONUS).

It's all going to depend on what material was used for the substrate...
Burlap = coarse
Paper = fine
Linen= less fine
Denim = less coarse.

Beautiful knife brother.Also have to take into account the grit with which the final finish is done. I've seen some very smooth highly polished burlap micarta, and some very dull finished paper micarta.
Good example of shiny burlap micarta. Credit for pic goes to SKBlades.
