Was looking through the custom knife listings and saw it. If someone has time, please check out the photos and tell me if you think it's real. Looks pretty authentic to me. Item number is 110077500589. Sorry for not posting the link. Thanks -Matt- P.S. -- If this is legit, I'm gonna :barf:

I saw this but something about it said it was too good to be true? I googled his name and all the other knives I saw were marked San Francisco, not just san fran. It's also missing the sheath.

Thanks for the reply striper28. I was at work when I saw that listing and did not have too much time to research it. I did a bit more looking when I got home and agree that it does not quite look right. The mark I saw on the other knives of his was kind of off center, but always in the same spot, and spelled out. Kind of interesting to say the least. -Matt-

I find it interesting that the seller would first know enough to be able to call it an "Old San Fran. style bowie" and then claim to not know anything about the maker or know it's worth. You can't talk about Gold Rush era knives without knowing about Price. Sounds disingenuous to me.

The other thing that tipped me off was that it wasn't taperd tang like the other Price knifes I saw.

Here's a couple for comparison-

You should ask over in the Bernard Levine forum. Those guys have fake-spotting down to an art. A search in that forum for "Price bowie" turns up nothing (literally, a blank page which makes me think the search function is current AWOL).

I can say this: If it is a Price knife it was made before he learned to grind straight. The level of finish is also below what I have seen on his knives.

I find the statement "Bid only if you know what your bidding on as I will not accept returns for this knife." very interesting . That one should start the red flags a waiving, IMHO.

Based upon some other pics I found and the great info you guys provided, I'll retract my statement in my original post and say it ain't looking too authentic anymore. I hope it is worth as much to the winner of that acution as he is going to pay for it. -Matt-

Good Lord that's a lot of money! Rarity has its benefits I guess! Thanks for the link striper28. -Matt-

i think the record is $135,000 for a Price. Even the plain ones I have seen for sale are usually $10k and up and the Will and Finck knives aren't too far behind.
