hi everyone....does anybody own any pieces by michael rader....i am wondering about the overall fit,finish,quality.....i have been to his website and i like his style....was just curious what you guys thought about his stuff....ryan

I have a piece by Michael Rader.

Everything about it is first-rate. Amazing fit-and-finish. Great quality- beautiful damascus that is the nemesis of tatami mats everywhere.:D
I would also like to add that he is very pleasant to deal with.
Sometimes it takes him awhile to return phone calls, since his shop is outside of cell-phone range. Eventually, though, he gets back to you. In a timely fashion. He also delivered ahead of schedule, I might add.

Sword-stick. If you are thinking of something for Iaido, I'm not sure that he would be the go-to guy. But you can always talk to him about it...

well respected...well liked.

He does not make japanese style swords in the traditional manner or style....if you don't care about this, and simply want very good work with an artistically influenced method of completion, Michael will produce it, and you will be very happy.

IF you want Japanese style pieces that are assembled in the "proper" manner, than there are other makers to recommend.

Ed, did you get the Burger piece that we spoke about, as well?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Indeed I did. What, you think I waste my time jawing with you and then don't take your advice?:D

Seriously, it was excellent advice, and the Burger piece is very nice work. Of course, different genre than the Rader.

I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Yup, totally different genres.....I was impressed with Michael's humility, and his interest concerning input.

He really cares about "feel and flow", and that is one HUGE thing that separates wall hangers from actual users.

Glad to know you got both....I didn't want to take money away from Michael, or deny you the happiness of a one-of-a-kind handmade piece.

Best Regards,

I was impressed by his letter to Blade mag., in the newest one out w/ the firefighter's axe on the cover.
