looking through the may issue of BLADE some nice looking hunting knives caught my eye and lo and behold they're made of infi by Jerry's friend and my drinking buddy mike thourot. mike made the piano keys and if i'm not mistaken designed some of the swamp rat d2 stuff.

i don't know if BLADE is online, i'm gonna try to find a pic

Can one of you older hogs explain to us newer piglets exactly the relationship of Mike and Busse? I've been collecting for 3 years now and have come across his name; but don't know much about him.

as far as I know they've been good freinds for a long while. mike did the safari skinner for swamp rat in d2, he did the one off custom infi peice that sold here a while back, and he did the piano keys.

other then that???

pic to the far right. HUH. wonder if those are just customs or if theres any chance of a run of them...

when I first saw the one sold here come up, I was sorely sooorely tempted to buy it. but the choil kept me at a distance, and my custom I have on order.

i believe jerry ran over mike in his car one night.

.

I would have loved to been a fly on the wall for that one! I have one of Mike's INFI knives. It is a sweet piece of cutlery. Jody, I am quite interested if you can find some pics from Blade. I may have to give Mike a call. :D

i'm thinking about calling him too! mike's a super talented maker and if i had any dough for knives i'd pick one of his infi models up. one in ivory micarta is on my long wish list.
"what happens at blade stays at blade"
that being said, ya better put on yer man pants if you're going out drinking with jerry and mike.
and that's all i've got to say bout that.

LVC, the white handled one is the one I own, or one just like it. he had them at Blade two years ago I think. I don't believe he made the trip last year, if he did I never saw him.

add a handful of ice and substitute jwb for adios rockstar.

naa, i did/do mine up as a hardcore variation.

all ingredients are as single shots unless otherwise noted:

vodka
bacardi 151
bacardi clear rum
clear taquila
wild turkey bourbon/whiskey
blue caracao
sweet sour mix
2 shots 7-up
8oz rockstar zero

I guess thats more like 5 1/2 shots, since caracao isn't very strong... i'll say 6 shots becuase of the 151.

technically the original adios recipe shouldn't have whiskey or 151, it should have gin (:thumbdn::grumpy::barf::grumpy::thumbdn:), and you should fill up the rest of the glass with 7-up to make it palatable. with the addition of 151, your not getting that god aweful concoction to taste good. the rockstar zero just makes it more gross.

when I made the drink in the picture, I found a disaster recipe by accident - "floor cleaner". 151+root beer schnaps. it smells exactly like industrial floor cleaner and probably tastes about the same too. and you can clean your floors with it :D

That be it my friend. I still have to make a sheath deserving of it, then I shall probably carry it. It is a fine knife. I have a smaller companion for it with a very old more yellow ivory micarta. I think Mike said the material was over 30 years old. It is D2 and a sharp mother.

I think I asked around about what the situation was with the infi, wether mike ground the knives and sent them in for heat treat, but never really got an answer for it. i'd assume that busse would do the in house heat treat of the blades, but

I think BorderShift indicated that the HT is Busse, but a call to Jerry could clarify it. If I get the chance this week, I'll call and see if he has a second, I haven't talked to him in a while.
