I am "preparing" my next purchase. One maker I'm considering is Mike Williams. I have checked out his HP and I like what I see there!
I would like to know some "facts" about the blades made by this Mastersmith. Who owns some of his knives? How is overall f&f, cutting abillity.....?
Uh, BTW....pics much appreciated:)

Thanks for your comments!

I bought one from Mike at the Little rock show last year. Great guy, great knives. I recommend him/them. One thing I have noticed about master smiths is they only have one level of quality they produce. They only release knives with the best fit and finish they can produce. Mike is no exception. Everything I have seem from him is as close to perfect as possible. My knife is flat ground with convex edge. Hand sanded finish. Mike is not only a master smith, he is active in ABS events and is in an area where he can be in close contact with an excellent group of bladesmiths. Yes they are cutters!

Mr. Farr, I totaly agree with you. Mike indeed does great works. I love his knives, and I never doubt the cutting ability of Mastersmith knives. If I have enough money, I might get one of his pieces.

P.s. you also do great works !! I am planning on getting one of your knives in the near future. :D

Swissdagger,
Go for it brother. Mike Williams is one of the three smiths who I've turned to most frequently for guidance and tips through the years -- the others being Jerry Fisk and Steve Dunn.

As Dan mentioned, Mike is very active in ABS events such as the Hammer-In's at Old Washington, Arkansas. He and Jerry are the two who come up with the wild things we have to go through in the cutting competitions. They of course have to do each of the events themselves in the planning stages, to make sure sure that each event is feasible. So the man knows a thing or two about cutting performance.

Mike and I have become good friends and I can tell you, he's a good honest man as well. That in itself doesn't directly have anything to do with his knives, but as you know, a maker's attitude and disposition have a lot to do with making the purchase a pleasurable experience.

You'll also find Mike's pricing to quite reasonable.

I have to agree with the consensus on this. Go for it. You will get to meet a great person and you will end up with a great knife. Hard to beat that combination.

I don't think you could go wrong getting a knife fom Mike. Great knifes and a real nice guy as well.

Mike is a super nice guy and very easy to talk to. I don't hesitate at all to recommend his work...like was said by Dan, it's as close to perfect as you'll see.

Here's a pic of a FANTASTIC knife by Mike off of BladeGallery. :)
