Thinking of going camping in Michigan. I'd probably want to take a machete and a sub-4" folder. Wondering what their knife laws are. I found this on the knife-expert website:
Michigan -750.226... Carrying with unlawful intent
Any person who, with intent to use the same unlawfully
against the person of another, goes armed with a pistol
or other firearm or dagger, dirk, razor, stiletto, or
knife having a blade over 3 inches in length, or any
other dangerous or deadly weapon or instrument, shall
be guilty of a felony, punishable by imprisonment in
the state prison for not more than 5 years or by a fine
of not more than 2,500 dollars.
To me that's saying: "Carry what you want as long as you aren't intending on attacking someone."
It's confusing because it limits blade length. So if someone were to carry a sub-3" folder with the intent to attack someone, the knife isn't illegal= that just doesn't make sense.
So what's up Michigan? Are you a sub-3" state? Does concealed matter? Can we carry a regular folder so long as we aren't doing so with malicious intent?
Please help....
