A new version of the knife bill filed last year in Michigan but was never voted on in the Senate before the end of the session has been reintroduced. The phrasing is slightly different, but it essentially accomplishes the same job of legalizing switchblades for both ownership and carry, and clarifies the rules for fixed blades and concealed carry.
Here's the new bill.
I'm very excited about this legislation. My only concern is the vague phrasing of what is considered a weapon ("object designed, manufactured, or intended to be used to cause death or injury to any person"); it's hard to say how a LEO would interpret that. It would also be nice if it added preemption, or even allowed CPL holders to conceal double-edged fixed blades as well. In any case, if you live in Michigan or visit often, be sure to write your representative in support of this bill - it's definitely a major step in the right direction.
