And they are nice!!!!! :D
I got a stone washed L-UDT auto with serrated blade as a duty carry knife
Also got a manual Kestral non serrated and it is one mean peice of steel.
The Kestral is so nice I'm really torn as to wether or not to add it to the carry rotation.
The L-UDT is a little sluggish on opening but I might loosten the tension on the pivot as the spring seems to be really stout on closing it.

Questions are
1) should I put the Kestral away as a collector or use it as a carry knife
2) can the pivot on the L-UDT be loosened a little to have the knife open faster ? or is it factory adjusted.?

Boy these are really sharp knives right out of the box. There aint a whole lot of hair left on my arms.

carry it, i believe its real value can be appreciated if it is used.

If the Kestral is out of the normal production models, I'de also say carry it. Its a nice little knife.
If its a special limited production, some more thought might be advised.

Use it. IMHO, the real satisfaction of owning a fine knife is in the carrying and using.

Also, I agree with your observations about the edge quality. Every MT I have has had a superb edge in terms of grind and sharpness right out of the box.

Enjoy your new blades. :)

Slicer, you should send the kestrel to me and have black rayskin put in it instead of the Kraton rubber ;)
Then you should carry it because it's a nice knife.

As for the LUDT, I've played with and taken apart all my knives, which includes one UDT.
What I noticed with all my Microtechs is that adjusting the pivot pin does nothing for the blade movement. They're put together at such close tolerences that the blades work with the pivots tightend all the way.
I would just play around with the LUDT until it loosend up on its own.
If it hasn't loosened up after a week then I'd go for the pivot.

I have made the same positive experiences with my Microtech knives.
My SOCOM Elite was razor sharp and my Vector was (and it still is) the sharpest knife that I ever have held in my hands. Microtech knives are great!

I love to use the word “my” associated with the word “Microtech”.

I'd have to agree with the others on both accounts. Use the Kestral, and play with your LUDT to break it in. If playing with it doesn't loosen it up, use some lubricant. On your knife, I mean...

Plaid with the L-UDT for about an hour last night. It is loostening up. I gotta say I really have to make sure I grip the thing becaise the tork when the blade opens is pretty stout.
That Stone wash is really pretty.
