I have two Buck/Strider folders. While not as hefty as my GB I use the Bucks hard everyday. I have one Tanto BU880 the other Spear Point BU880 SP. I really like them but want to sand the edges like the AR/GB series. I am only going to sand the Spear Point Buck thats my everyday user.

My question pertains to how you guys do it at the Shop?

What grit sand paper do you use to get the edges on the GB/AR so smooth?

Are there any tricks you could pass down to me?

Do you use varying grit papers? I.E. start out with heavy grit then move to finer grit.

Thanks in advance for any info.

We use a round over bit.

You could use a Scotchbright wheel on a buffer.

Or…any sand paper over 120 grit works well.

When your finished, squirt some oil on it to blend the color.

Thanks very much Mick,

I thought about using a router with a bit. I just want to get the sanded portion uniform. The bit would keep it even so thats cool.

Thanks for the oil tip!!!!

I'll post a few pics of the Strider/Buck when done, I am thinking about removing a bit more of the G-10 around the Thumb Stud for easier gloved opening.

The GB I have really already has all the upgrades, i.e. sanded edges, relieved thumb stud area and more hand done work.

I like the idea of working on the Strider/Bucks

I use them alot working.

Doesn't sound like you'll be producing alot of dust but I've always been cautioned that G-10 is nasty stuff on the lungs.
Stay Safe,

I know about the G-10 dust at work we cut some of the stuff. Epoxy Glass G-10 is nasty S**T on the skin and lungs big time.

I am wearing a mask, and won't be taking off that much material, just rounding the edges a bit to make my Buck/Strider a bit more like my GB in terms of handle feel.

If you use a router with a round over bit, make sure you make a fixture to thicken the handle. That way you can have the bearing of the bit ride on something.

If it was me, I would just do it with sand paper.

Looking at the job, I am going the regular old sand paper hand method.
I was trying to think of making a jig or something but what I want to do is just sand the edges in the middles not where the thumbs ramps are, nor on the back edge where the ridges are. I guess I'll post a pic when I am done.

Again Mick thanks for the advice.

I appreciate gaining a bit of your knowlegde from you.
