Mick, what is the SAFE way to loosen AR clip?

The subject line just about covers it. I don't use my clip, but I'd like the option. At the moment, I'm using Ichabod Poser's idea of placing a nickel under the clip. I'm going to leave it there for a day or two...

BTW, what are the AR/GB clips made out of? FWIW, my clip is black.

I really don't think the nickel idea will work - there is way too much tension on the clip. Best to unscrew it and bend the clip out a little. (Don't try to do it with clip on the knife - even though the screws are very secure, they are not meant to take the side-to-side load that bending it on the knife would inflict - although I'm sure it could handle it.)

You’re asking ME a safe way to do something?

AR/GB clips are made of 416 stainless.
Im not sure if the nickel idea will work because of the spring tension.
I have always just stuck a screwdriver in there and turned it sideways until it loosens however much Im after.
Of course if I break anything it is a lot easier for me to fix it than for you.

I was able to loosen mine up enough by bending it out with my fingers, although it wasn't that easy. I would imagine that Mick's suggestion of the screwdriver would be much easier but you'd have to be careful not to bend it too far.

Stick clip in pocket with knife on the outside. Pull the knife against the tension. Don't over do it.

Do the clip screws on the AR thread into the Ti liner or are they entirely held by the G-10 scale?

I don't want to do major fussing with my AR at this time--including removing the clip--but I'd like to loosen up the clip tension without causing irreparable "harm" (as if that's possible).

When I gave Lynn the advice on the nickel I did not mean to imply that this is an overnight fix.

I had a Buck Mini-Strider Tanto that had a very tight clip. Every night for about a month I'd just shove a nickel or a penny when I laid the knife on my dresser and emptied my change.

I think that because I was slowly bending the clip with the nickel and from wearing the knife daily it slowly worked itself into the proper adjustment.

Eric Chang now owns the knife and he tells me that it's still a tad too tight even now.

"When I gave Lynn the advice on the nickel I did not mean to imply that this is an overnight fix."

That is entirely correct. He did NOT say anything about it being an overnight fix. That's why I said I was going to leave it there for a day or two. Ichabod Poser knows his knives.

Using my trusty Benchmade Torx driver set, I removed my clip and adjusted it. Now, it just touches the G-10. Since the G-10 is so grippy, it seems to work fine.

Mick, it looks like one of the three Torx screws securing the clip screws into a brass insert, specifically the one closest to the pivot. Is that the only one that has a brass insert? Should I use Lock-Tite?

BTW, this thing feels even better without the clip!
