Posted this on USN. Thought some of you may like it...
About 6 months ago my Father Mickey Yurco asked me what knife attributes would be optimal for a deployed enviroment. (knowing my next deployment was imminent)

So naturally we drafted a picture of the blade on a Bob Evans Napkin.( Just as most Mickey Yurco designs begin=)

Based loosely on some of his recent kiridashi handle designs I sketched up what I wanted and why. Here is what came out...

I needed a knife that was both funtional as a utility blade and a combat blade.

I chose this particular blade because during any slashing technique, it seems to focus most of the power in the forward pointing tip. It's razor like drop tip can also be used to stab if it came to that. There is also a semi-sharp skull crusher/glass breaker ground into the hilt.

It also makes quick work of pesky MRE foil packs!

The Straight non serrated blade is an absolute must! It can easily be sharpened using readily available field expedient sharpening tools such as the Gerber pocket sharpener or the Redi-edge Carbide sharpeners.

The simple cordwrap handle can be replaced or reconfigured with readily available 550 cord. Mickey sent the knife with a tan wrap on the back edge of the handle. I rewrapped it in Ranger Green in an alternating pattern. (I haven't perfected the frayed end melting technique like my dad=()

Various cutouts make for a firm positive grip during skinning, choked up on the blade, reverse grip, Mercop style forward edge techniques, or standard holding techniques. You may even employ some non lethal trapping techniques.

I requested a Boker+ Teklok. Mickey sent the knife with a similar Spyderco belt loop that could accomodate all conceivable mounting positions. I chose to mount the Custom Kydex sheath to my Safariland 6004 holster. My Armor is already busy enough. It also puts the knife in my immediate grasp when my hands hang naturally at my side.

He also sent one of his famous neck knives with a similar blade design!

The Knife is great. It is a huge conversation piece at Guardmount(roll call)

If I were to add anything it would be a Dark earth or bead blasted finish and some file work on the edges where my hand will make contact. Maybe in six more months I can revisit the topic. For now this knife is hard at work!

Here is my vest and some of my partner's "zombie apacolypse" knife setups...

Picked up a CRKT Hissatsu for Xmas from the BX...

First i'd like to say Welcome and Thankyou for your service. Second i'll say great review and that is one killer cool knife. I like the way it goes with your gear and the handiness. I'm sure the lighter weight which is definately a big plus for ground pounders will make it very handy and deadly if need be. Be safe brother and may you return safely soon.

Thanks guys:) I am not usually a wharncliffe blade kind of guy, but it fit the job I needed it for.

Nice to see you have that strapped out there. I think its definitely good to have it in back alleys as well (I believe Yurco's designs have that rep).

BTW, your M9 has lots of "character" marks already

Fancy seeing you here Golgo... Anyways, great review and I love that design! Very utilitarian and no-nonsense. Hope it serves you well until you return home again and even after that.

Welcome to the forum sir! First off I want to thank you for your service. I pray your and your teammates all come home safe and sound.
Second, what a nice usable looking knife design. I love it, but that's not surprising. I have always liked your dads work. He does a lot of nice grinding. Very distinctive.
If those ever get out to the masses I might just have to buy one. It looks like a perfect day to day cutter.
Take Care and come home safe.
Rick
