Auntie Yangdu advises she received a batch of the Micro Bowies in the last shipment.

As seen in this thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1333880-Bawanna-Mini-Micro-Bowie-and-YCS-for-10-16

She says they are 8 1/2" overall length and about 9 ounces. My original is just under 8" and the second version I believe ran 9" or a bit more.

I think this puts these in between the original and the second longer hand version which should make a mighty splendid carry knife.

The handle is different sans the exposed tang which is easily remedied if desired.

Made by Min. I don't have the details on if he's back with HI or making them for HI similar to what Bhakta was doing, I'll share that when I get that information.

So if you've been waiting for a Micro Bowie, the wait is over.

Send Yangdu an email and get one for yourself.

Ah! So there it is! Glad to see its return! One of the best EDC's ever! Glad to see it at a compromised length. That should pretty much make everybody happy. I still like my shorty first gen but I have short sausage fingers. Most would rather have the longer handle for bigger paws so cant argue with that. Thanks for the report Bawanna. Peeps better grab them up now because they wont last long!

Snag them while you can! For a thick knife they're extremely agile and delicate. Used one not too long ago as the primary tool in processing a deer. The full tang and thicker spine would make it a good field knife as well, I've done some small wood processing with mine.

These knives are simply marvelous. This new batch is quite tempting too. I would definitely get another if my HI funds were full, and I'm still considering it, even though I would have to break open my piggy bank.

I carry my Bhakta version every day, and still have Cul's first gen at home. While I do like the feel of his and the overall length savings, I do prefer mine with the longer handle. And I have small hands. I'm not sure why, but having a little extra handle is just what I prefer. Maybe it's because of so many years of knife handles being just a little too big for me? I dunno. I guess I don't like feeling like my hand has to go in one place, same reason I avoid finger grooves.

Now someone feel free to call me crazy, but to me, the blade on the Min version seems shorter than on mine, and the handle longer. Especially with no exposed tang. I say take another half inch to inch off the handle, and you'll have an Ultra Mini Micro Bowie!

I think you might be onto something (not "on something" haha). If the blade is actually smaller than Bawanna's original version, then he could easily modify one to be a shorter OAL than his original, but with the same handle length as his original.

8 7/8'' 10 ounce Mini Micro Bowie by Min Kami. Satisal wood handle. $125. *SOLD*

That's a good thought Mr. Tall. My coffers are completely dried up or I'd get on right this minute. By not having the little hook on the butt end it's wide open for modification.

I kind of like the drop hook but really not a deal breaker. My wheels are turning.

Bawanna, I've been meaning to mention how I felt about that hook on the handle, and reading it from you gave me an idea. A crazy idea, but an idea:

Like you said, i like the hook handle, but it's not a deal-breaker. Also like you said, the lack of hook leaves it open for mods. Now, depending on how badly one wanted, I suppose it would not be that difficult to remove the scales entirely, file down the tang to length, then make scales with hook at the end. Then you would have the best of both worlds, and your bowie handle would look something like Snowwolf's

Mine is at the bottom. A person could incorporate a hook but it wouldn't have an exposed tang such as these or Snowwolfs.
Certainly doable for sure and worthy of consideration.
I'm gonna try and get one of these new ones and look it over some. Try to keep it for a spare this time.

Naw, just the little drop at the back that keeps your hand from sliding off the back, not really a hook I guess.

I really like the drop at the back on the original design.. but since I've been waiting a while for a micro I will grab one anyway.
I messaged Bawanna a while back asking him to help me with some modifications,, so I'm excited to get started on this project.

I love the look of these. That antler handle looks great.

Here is the one I got yesterday. Made a pair of pants with scrap leather.
The knife feels great in hand. It's your basic, small slicer, chopper, stabber, hammer, digger, pry bar, spatula.
The balance point is exactly Where the handle meets the blade. It's a hair under 5/16" thick at the top of the handle. An 1/8" thick at the base of the handle and an 1/8" thick a 1/4" from the point. The blade is 3 7/8" long and is sharpened completely including the Cho and below. There is 4 5/16" of all hardened cutting edge. There is a nice hump on the spine where the handle meets the blade that rises 1/16". Look closely at the point and you see the final 1/8" makes an abrupt outward angle forming a sort of penetrator tip. This tip is also thicker on all sides than the rest of the edge. Crazy! It's like a small arrowhead. I've never seen a point like this. The end of the handle seemed to be cut off a little hasty. Saw marks are very present and the outside edge of both the steel and wood had sharp burrs that took 5 minutes of filing and sanding. I'll probably leave the saw marks. I just hit them with a slice of sand paper for a smooth feel.

That looks really good and nice work on the sheath too.

I see a lot of potential in these, like to see one in person.

When you say the blade is 3 7/8" long, are you talking tip to handle, or tip to cho? I would like to compare blade and handle lengths to mine. Thanks!

I usually round off that corner behind the cho, makes it more comfy and far less painful if your hand slide forward.
Just a bit, I don't degrade the cho at all.
My first generation is about 3 5/8" from front of cho to tip and 4" front of handle to tip so the blade is apparently very close.

Min Kami makes special order knife on and off with Bhakta and rest of the HI Kamis.
