I got this from Wilson a few months back. Well yesterday as I was cleaning the blade from fingerprints, I happened to notice several micro chips near the tip of the blade. Should I send this in to be fixed or am I just being anal? Here is a link to a picture I took. http://m.flickr.com/lightbox?id=13412933474 I know it is blurry sorry, but you can see them.

If they happen again after you sharpen them out. It is a rare case.
Ive gently cut everything you can name with my 21. Sheetrock, zip ties, electrical wire, dirty cardboard etc.
Such a uniform and durable heat treat.
If it comes back I would send it in for sure. That is a something that would bother me very much.
The steel one of the many reasons I love CRK and that is on my hollow ground 30 degree edge with a micro bevel.
The edge may have just had a super thing burr from the factory. I never used the factory grind on any knife before. I always immediately fix them to my liking.
Otherwise have fun with it!
Matt

I thought this was about "NWO microchips" ! :D It's not unusual for knives that are used to have some edge damage or at least some sign of wear, infact some would say it's likely if not inevitable. :p

I understand, but this knife is brand new. I got it straight from the dealer and I haven't cut anything with it yet.

I think its fair to say its unusual to get a new blade from CRK with chips in it. My factory grinds have all been very nice. I would contact the dealer and see if they advise you to sharpen it, or if they want to exchange it. You can buy a pack of 20 blades for your Olfa carpet knife for 10 bucks and they'll all be perfect. You are reasonable to expect the same from CRK. Having said that I use all my knives in an EDC role and have come to accept and expect some small nicks and chips and dings as part of the gig. The less I care about it, the more enjoyement I get out of using the knives.

I expect to get dings and what not on my blade in use, but what I don't expect is it to be like this brand new.

You said you got it a few months back, but just noticed the chips now? After a few months I would not take it back if I was the dealer.

This is the first time I have seen them. And I haven't used knife except for cutting tape off a box. Unfortunately it has taken me till now to recognize them.

Are they chips or small rolls? Either way I think you should just fix it at this point and if it gets worse, send it back to CRK to fix.

Haha haze, lay off the haze.

I would be annoyed that a high quality knife didn't come high quality.

I've mentioned this many times, when at the shop I spent time inspecting sebenzas and had to show store clerk a few bad grinds. I was disappointed because the wood j lay I had wanted had badly grounded blade.

Wilson said to send it in for a replacement. Only problem is that their site has them out of stock....

Just got the replacment one. Does anyone else have a lbs that is slightly tilted to one side, i.e. not level. I am not sure if its normal or not.

Normal? Try 'em one more time. OR...get your money back. Ridiculous!

The disk is just slightly tilted higher on one side. Let me try and get a picture up.

Lol. When I first saw this post way back when, in the early morning hour, I said "Oh no! Big brother has stooped to a new low putting microchips in our knives to track us." Lack of sleep; lack of coffee will often lead us to lack of sensibility.

My regular Umnum (ie not a StarTac) does not have a tilted over travel stop.
