MSR or Seattle Sports (my bad, I had "Sierra" listed. Bad memory)?

Use will be as part of our kit, most likely field use will be as a pre-filter.

Any input??

Thanks germs.

I have no experience with the Sierra towels but have a few of the MSR that have lasted a long time, one is about 15 years old and still works great.

However, they are so absorbent that I have to think that they wouldn't work particularly well as a prefilter. To be honest, I've never used them in that way myself so just consider that my worthless 2 cents. :)

ETA: A bandan or old t-shirt makes a pretty good pre-filter.

I've had a very positive experience with MSR Pack Towels.

They are extremely high quality but are also super absorbent as another poster has already mentioned. I think that with a bit of care they could be used as a prefilter and will definitely remove any large physical contaminants from the water very effectively. I prefer the large body-size towel.

They can be found for around $30 U.S. at locations such as Gander Mountain, Dick's Sporting Goods, etc.

How bout a Sham Wow?

How bout a Sham Wow?

I was going to purchase a MSR towel and when I found one in a store and felt it, it felt very similar to a Sham-Wow. I believe the MSR towel is a little softer but it is essentially the same thing. I use a Sham-Wow when I go camping or travel. A Sham-Wow will absorb all of the water off your body after a shower. Initially it is a little scratchy, but after washing it (do not put it in a dryer) it softens nicely. The only downside to the Sham-Wow is that they do not make a large model which you can wrap around your body.
