I just used a really small 1 inch long close knife. And now I gotta have one, and I'm thinking spyderco bug in 3cr. Anyone regularly carry a microknife like that? And if you do, what do you carry and what's the perfect one in your opinion?

I have a Micro Recon 1. Blade length is just under 2.

I like it, but I find that 2" to 2.5" is the "sweet spot" for me. Less than that can handle most cutting tasks, but the problems start when what you're cutting is longer than the blade length.

I've found that a blade length of two to two and a half gives the handle length I need to get leverage on larger cutting jobs.

The Spyderco Bug is TINY. I could barely get a two finger grip on it and would highly suggest getting something a little bigger if you plan to actually carry and use it.
I would pick up a Spyderco Ladybug or Manbug. Still very small and has good steel. That's what I'd go for hands down.

I really like my bark river little creek. Micro for a fixed blade :)

Dude thats a no brainer... Spyderco Ladybug (or manbug).
VG10 steel like $25
ZDP-189 like $40

Where else can you get those steels at those prices. Incredible value. They're all over eBay.

The smallest knife that I carry these days is a Kershaw Blur!

The Benchmade mini-grip is my idea of a micro knife.

Ok, seriously though, I did buy a Spyderco Ladybug not long ago as an experiment and finally decided it was too small for me, even to carry as a second knife. But I am interested in trying a Spyderco Dragonfly. That might be what I would consider a micro knife.

People think of knives in terms of the blade length, I think in terms of the handle size. A very small knife normally has a very small handle which makes it hard to hold onto and use for anything serious. Think of the interchangeable blade utility knives- they have a big handle but a blade that might stick out only 1/2" or 3/4". It is capable of cutting tough materials because of the handle size even though it has a very small blade.

^ture... but you're misusing a micro knife if you are using it for "anything serious". If you ever needed that much grip then you're probably putting the blade through more than it was designed for.

I certainly get what you mean though. I used to have a Kershaw chive on my keys and it was just too awkward to use on anything.

I gave my Chive and my Ladybug to my daughter. And BTW her EDC right now is a Tenacious and prior to that it was a mini-grip.

I have a small knife with a 2 inch blade that has a button to deploy the blade. (ok its a switch blade) It also has a built in butane lighter. Don't carry it or use it but it was given to me by this sweet little old lady at my church!?? The blade is recurve and razor sharp. (I don't smoke either) Just a conversation piece.
