I have used Micro-Mesh pads for all kinds of small knife projects: rounding off sharp tangs, buffing out scratches from scales, and blades, etc. I have the variety pack of 2" x 2" squares, of the "regular" type, in a grit progression of 1500 up through 12000, according to Micro-Mesh's grading system. Although these are described by the manufacturer as being for wood and softer surfaces, as I said, they've worked pretty well for me.
But, like most of you, I'm always looking for something even better. Micro-Mesh makes two other types of variety packs of the small squares: AO, for aluminum and countertops, and MX for metal. For obvious reasons, I'm curious to try the MX pads for the work on my blades.
So, has anyone tried two or more of the Micro-Mesh pad types? If so, can you give me some compare/contrast advice and guidance?
Thanks in advance.
