To begin, I don't like to solder at all, especially micro board stuff. It's one of those things I sometimes have to do, but not enough to be good at it. I use micro wireless video, both professionally and as a hobby. For the hobby part, I use lower end import cameras, because I occasionally destroy them in the application I use them with. These camera's are OK, but invariably has POS power switches. I just had two go on different cameras. My easy fix is just to close then contact point on the board so that the camera is powered whenever hooked to the battery. With these cameras though, the contact distance was about 2mm and some of the surrounding contacts were about 1.5mm away from the pair I needed to connect. Off I went to Radio Shack, to get a low wattage pencil iron. I had a gun that got to hot and would have been to cumbersome. While I was picking out my iron, I saw a Kronus Helping Hands unit on display. For $12.99, this was a no brainer. That, and .015dia. Silver-Bearing Solder, made a job I was a little intimidated by, much easier...

Thanks for posting this,I am going to Radio Shack tomorrow.
I could have really used that thing monday.

I printed out your post last night and showed it to a buddy at work and he wanted one too,so I bought two on the way home this aftenoon.
It seems to be very solidly built for 13 bucks and perfect for my needs.
Thanks again.

I think I've had one for...shoot six, seven years? Soldering, modeling, all kinds of little stuff. Good stuff.
If you end up doing a decent amount of fine soldering, like it or not, you should consider picking up a half decent soldering station. You can pick up an adjustable power set-up for under 100 bucks now a days and be done with it, nothing fancy, but it'll get it done for the most part. Really is worth it to have the different temps. Just my 2 cents.
