Microbevel and stropping?

I sharp freehand and suck at it.
Nevertheless I have a rule I follow; When the edge is not (to much) damaged I strop instead of using a stone. Be it on a glossy magazine or my leather belt.

When I do use the stone I like to put on a micro bevel because I read good things about it. (how many strokes does it take to get a microbevel anyways? I do 3 each side)

Here is my question:
When I strop my knife should I use the angle of the microbevel or the "original" bevel?

I would think to use the angle of the microbevel but I don't use my knives hard so the edge doesn't get damaged. And when I strop a lot and not use the stone and follow the angle of the microbevel wouldn't the microbevel get to big/large?

Hope you can understand my crappy English.

Also for a complete newbie I really shouldn't bother with microbevels should I :o

Micro bevels should be applied with your finest stone, 4 strokes per side should be more than enough to create one. When you strop, strop your main bevel but push hard, this will cause the leather to roll over the edge more and polish the micro bevel it also causes the micro bevel to become convexed. You can also use a hard surface strop and strop at the micro bevel angle.

Depends on the type of polish you want. If I were you I'd be doing more strokes as I usually strop at 50+ strokes varying grits. Which would easily take off a 3 stroke microbevel and create a convex.
I would do a 15 stroke microbevel, then I would strop the EDGE of the knife at 26 strokes (13 per side) then raise it to the microbevel and do 30~40 per side.

How about stropping on magazine paper (really works)?
Can't push that hard really on paper.

In the first part I was speaking more for stropping on leather.

Magazine's will work but the proper tools always work better.

Personally I aim for stropping the microbevel with the lightest touch I can, usually for 1 to 3 strokes per side. I get good results that way.
