I have an order for a hunter/camp knife.

With the new diamond sharpeners a high RC hardness is not much of a problem anymore. What is the highest RC value I can leave a 1095 blade before microchiping would be a concern ?

That would depend alot on your blade geometry, a fat convex can be left much harder then a thin hollow grind.

Mark, take it easy on the extra course diamond hone. I wore mine out in short order. I have since learned to take the edge down to fairly thin with 100 grit sanding paper before going to the extra course diamond. That hard steel will do a number on it.

I like 58 RC . but I would think if enough meat is left even 60 rc would be fine....but hell - what do I know :D

Seriously though.....from what I know 1095 doesnt hold an edge as long as 0-1. Damn --- I had my temper temp based on 0-1....so I dont have any damn idea ;)

RLINGER - whats your best rc/ temper temperature guess for Mark? What temp gets 1095 to 58 RC?
